Lamination Adhesives
Flexible laminates are used in increasingly demanding packaging applications. Adhesives are a key component in every laminated structure because they influence bond strength, transparency, chemical resistance, heat resistance, curing behavior, and machine performance.
The product range includes solvent-based and solvent-free lamination adhesives for different substrates, machine speeds, and end-use requirements.
General Performance Adhesives
General-performance adhesives are suitable for packaging snacks and other non-aggressive dry products. They can be used for general-purpose film-to-film, metallized-film, and foil laminations.
They are intended for applications where reliable bond performance and stable converting are required without the extreme chemical or thermal demands of more complex packaging structures.
High Performance Adhesives
High-performance adhesives provide stronger chemical and heat resistance. They are suitable for more demanding applications such as packaging for liquids, spices, detergents, and other aggressive contents, subject to the selected grade and full application testing.
Ultra High Performance Adhesives
Ultra-high-performance adhesives are designed for laminates used in retort applications and other severe end uses. They are suitable for films with high concentrations of slip agents and may be used for packaging acidic liquids or harsh chemicals, subject to complete performance testing.
Speciality Adhesives
Speciality adhesive systems are intended for requirements that fall outside standard general, high-performance, or ultra-high-performance applications. Product selection should be based on the laminate structure, contents, process conditions, and required final performance.
Hibond Solvent-Based Laminating Adhesives
Hibond adhesives are based on polyurethane resin systems and ethyl acetate. They have been standardized through R&D experience and customer feedback, with carefully selected raw materials designed to provide reliable product performance across food and non-food applications.
Key characteristics include:
- Excellent machine performance
- Excellent transparency
- Excellent wettability
- High initial and final bond strength
- High slip compatibility
- Suitability for a wide range of machine speeds
- Chemical and heat resistance according to the selected performance class
Microbond Solvent-Free Laminating Adhesives
Microbond solvent-free adhesives are designed for different machine speeds, substrate types, and end applications. Their low-viscosity systems are intended for transparent, opaque, and metallized films.
Key characteristics include:
- Low-viscosity systems
- Suitability for high-speed lamination
- High slip compatibility
- Low migration according to the selected product and application
Critical Lamination Parameters
Adhesive performance depends not only on the product, but also on the conditions under which it is applied. Important parameters include:
- Film surface tension
- Adhesive coating weight
- Mixing ratio
- Curing time
- Slip additive concentration in the film
- Temperature and pressure
- Reel tension
- Machine speed
For critical applications, all parameters should be tested before commercial production.
